Hello, I noticed that my egress is showing 300+ GB - I do not understand how that is possible when this is just a private project with just 1 user.

Do you have a database in your project? If so, make sure you're using private networking. Using the public URL will incur egress charges.

Hello! I think I figured out the problem. I had created a polling system to get updates and looks like it was not she showing if data was updated or not, was also bringing a whole skew of data together that was not needed, bloating the egress bandwidth.
