I have a Hobby account where the project sits and a brand new PRO account, to move to project to. When adding the PRO account into the Hobby, I get an error that only PRO accounts can invite. If I send the invite to the Hobby account, it only shows me the PRO account completely empty as is a new account. how should I proceed to move this project from the Hobby account into the PRO?

Go to the project settings (not workspace settings) to add the Pro account and to change ownership. You were likely trying to add a workspace member into the Hobby account, which requires Pro to so so.

makes sense but where in the project setting do you add the account? and yes, I was adding it from the workspace from the Hobby.

there is no Members section under Project Settings. just Source, Networking, Edge, ... could you please confirm?

You can transfer the project directly from the Hobby account to the Pro account.

The destination account needs to have an active Hobby or Pro subscription, which it sounds like it already does.

Steps:

1. Log in to the account that currently owns the project.
2. Open the project and go to Project Settings → Members.
3. Invite the destination/pro account as a project member using its email address.
4. Have the destination account accept the invitation.
5. Go back to Project Settings → Members on the original account.
6. Click the three dots next to the destination user and select “Transfer Ownership”.
7. The destination user will receive a transfer confirmation email and must accept it within 24 hours.

After the transfer is accepted, the project ownership moves to the destination account.

Railway's documentation confirms that projects can be transferred to another user, and both the source and destination accounts must have an active Hobby or Pro subscription.

big thank you for trying to help but I don't have a "Project Settings → Members" on either accounts, at least in the dashboards I have. I really want to avoid upgrading my personal Hobby plan to PRO, just to change the ownership... :(

Thanks for the clarification. I checked this against Railway's current project-transfer documentation and similar cases.

The important distinction is that the destination account having a Pro workspace is not necessarily enough. For a project transfer between two different Railway users, the destination user/account itself needs an active paid subscription (Hobby or Pro).

Railway's documented flow is:

1. The current project owner opens the project.
2. Go to Project Settings → Members.
3. Invite the destination Railway user by email.
4. After the invitation is accepted, use the three-dot menu next to that user and select "Transfer Ownership".
5. The recipient then confirms the ownership transfer from the email within 24 hours.

If "Members" is completely missing from the Hobby project, I would not recommend upgrading the Hobby account just to discover whether the UI appears.

First, check that the destination user has an active paid subscription on their own account, rather than only belonging to a Pro workspace.

There is also a recent Railway case with the same Hobby → Pro scenario where the transfer worked once the destination account had an active paid plan.

If both accounts are already paid and the Hobby project still has no Members section, this looks like a UI/account-state issue rather than something the user can fix by upgrading the Hobby account. In that case Railway support would need to check the account/project state.

You need to click into the project, then on the left hand side, you’ll be able to access the settings from there.

I was not aware of this panel, thanks. now the PRO account shows as "Invite Pending" since about an hour ago, despite invite accepted and Resend Invite sent. Should I keep waiting?

Is the Pro account now able to access the project?

have 0 projects under the PRO account. I do can see the Hobby account under the PRO Workspace, but no project. PRO account still shown as Pending Member on the Hobby project

its been over 20 hours and the PRO account still shows as Invite Pending, even the invite was already accepted. Should I open a support ticket? any more recommendations? thanks

finally settled: "Migrated a Postgres + Volume + custom domain app from Hobby → Pro workspace by keeping the Hobby project as a live backup: dumped/restored Postgres via pg_dump/psql and copied the Volume via tar over railway ssh, validated everything end-to-end on a Railway-generated domain first, then cut over the custom domain (which required removing it from the old service, re-adding it to the new one for a fresh CNAME target, and updating DNS — not an instant flip).

Total data-copy time was a few minutes; the domain cutover is gated on DNS propagation + Railway's cert/ownership re-verification, which took longer than the data migration itself." Perhaps this was the long way around but is working now. Big thanks to all that helped!!!
