Hello Railway Team and Community,
I am currently running a web service for a church youth group (approx. 50 active users) and planning to upgrade to the Hobby Plan ($5/month) for better stability.
Since I am using a church-issued credit card, I must adhere to strict financial guidelines. I have two specific questions before upgrading:
1. Is there a "Hard Limit" or "Kill Switch" for spending? To comply with our budget policy, I need to ensure the monthly bill never exceeds a certain amount (e.g., $10). Is there a way to automatically shut down or pause services once a specific spending threshold is reached? I want to avoid any "surprise" overage charges.
2. Availability of Official Tax Invoices/Receipts? Our accounting office requires a formal receipt or tax invoice every month to verify the $5 base charge and any additional usage.
Are these invoices generated automatically?
Can they be easily downloaded as PDF from the dashboard?
Does the invoice include necessary details like the billing address?
I really love the Railway experience so far and want to make sure it's sustainable for our community's budget structure.
Thank you in advance for your help :)

For spending limits, many platforms allow you to set monthly or per-transaction caps either at the account level or through card controls. It’s usually best to check whether limits can be enforced automatically rather than relying on manual monitoring.
Regarding invoices and receipts, most accounting systems generate invoices automatically and allow them to be downloaded as PDFs from the dashboard. In many cases, billing details like the organization’s address can be added in the account or billing settings. I’d recommend confirming this with the platform’s support team to ensure everything meets your accounting and audit requirements.

Thanks for the info! I'm still waiting for a reply from the support team (it's been over 24 hours lol), so your input is very helpful. I'll keep this in mind.

Not the support team, but have been using Railway since launch so can provide some insight:
You can set a hard spend limit, yes. See their docs on this when you hit your hard limit it removes all your deployments but your data and service configuration remains until the new billing period OR an increase in limits.
Invoices are generated automatically via Stripe and emailed to you monthly. You can get all Receipts / Invoices from the dashboard at any time. The invoice includes your business name and address if you include it in your account settings.
