I’m hoping someone from Railway can explain this.
I attempted to pay using my Revolut Visa debit card, which has available funds. Instead of processing the payment, I received a message stating that prepaid cards are not accepted.
The problem is my card is not a prepaid card. It’s a legitimate debit card tied to my Revolut bank account, which I use for direct deposits, everyday purchases, and bill payments. It has sufficient funds available.
Rejecting the payment because your system incorrectly identifies it as a prepaid card is extremely frustrating. It effectively excludes customers who use modern financial institutions without any valid reason.
Is this a known issue with your payment processor? If so, are there any plans to fix it? Millions of people use Revolut as their primary bank, and a legitimate debit card shouldn’t be rejected because it’s mistakenly classified as prepaid.
I’d appreciate an explanation from Railway staff, because from a customer’s perspective, this feels like a payment processing bug rather than a problem with my card.
One thing to keep in mind: Revolut issues different types of cards in different countries. If you’re in the U.S., it’s possible Railway’s payment processor is misclassifying the card based on its Bank Identification Number (BIN), even though it’s a standard debit card. That would be an issue for Railway or its payment processor to investigate, not something wrong with your account. Bnb
