2024 Q2 Provisional Roadmap
The Railway team spent our time in Spain and spent a lot of our time reading through emails, looking through feedback, and then planning out what to work on next.
We now have a list of projects that the Railway team is going to be investigating and working on. These projects are focus areas for the Railway engineering team and as such, the Q2 timeline isn’t a hard deadline- rather it indicates that we are either researching, implementing, or delivering a project within this period.
Without further ado, the projects.
Planned Projects
Alerting
The Railway team has heard you out, we get a significant amount of support requests asking the Railway team to set-up customer observability stacks. We wondered, what does a Railway native observability experience look like? Feedback wanted.
Trial workloads on Railway Metal
Ribbon cutting planned. We plan to migrate a significant amount of new stateless workloads (everything but DBs) over to Railway hosted metal for users on the Trial plan.
Compliance Trust Center
Because we were busy setting up our on-prem locations, currently we manually provide documents and bridge reports to customers needing to fulfill their SOC2 obligations. We are now pursuing our audit in earnest, and while we work to meet our auditors standard- we plan to make more of our security posture and architecture to our Business Class customers in an improved fashion.
Improvements to Deployment Debugging
It’s 2 AM, your build crashes, you get an opaque error. You and many others faced this, the Railway team is going to look into making it so that getting on the platform and staying on is easier to debug.
Configurable Rate Limiting (Concept)
This one depends on many primitives for the Network team to deliver on, however, we hear you that the fears of success and racking up a major egress bill is something you want a solution to. We plan on exposing these knobs to the end user. Feedback wanted.
Revamp to Variables Experience (Concept)
We shipped service groups to Priority Boarding, the Product team is asking for feedback from companies on the platform to make the experience managing 200 and more variables better than what it is now. Feedback desired.
Private Network Overhaul
No more sleep(3), a new runtime is coming to make private networking less frustrating.
Slack Direct Support Improvements (Asks)
We are now at the point where we are spinning up multiple Slack channels with our most active customers but we (read Angelo) isn’t doing a good job keeping track of all of the asks for our customers. We plan to add a few overhauls in our tooling to track our customer requirements a better.
Keep in mind, this is not an exhaustive list and we have a number of under the hood improvements to the platform and additional features not yet fleshed out that might make it in this quarter.
Customer big or small, we want your experience on the platform to be nothing short of mint. Let us know if we are working on the right things, or not- we are always all ears.
