Hey y'all,
Today we've introduced the concept of public profiles. Here's mine.
At the moment, the page shows some basic user information along with their published templates. Soon, we'll also showcase your public projects.
We'd love to hear from you on what you'd like to see and showcase on your own public profile!
P.S: You can publish your profile by visiting your account settings page.

Hello, Angelo here from the Railway team. One thing that I take a lot of inspiration from are the Figma Community pages and the Steam profile pages. Not to bias y'all but we'd think it would be fun to show amount of deploys, time on the platform, favorite programming language, links to blogs.
Back when I used to work on some consumer social concepts: I figured it would be cool to have something like the following. Where your activity on Railway can give you "unlockables" to display. Don't take this as gospel- but here is that concept I whipped up just for this post.

I like the idea of showing the number of deployments you've made and love Brody's suggestion about showing failed deployments, would be cool to see more statistics like that, some ideas could be:
the percentage distribution of the languages you use on Railway ( similar to the percentage bar below github projects showing what languages the project consists of )
Your total run-time / build-time for deployments combined ( something fun you can do with this is to show how far a certain train could've traveled during your deployments' total run-time )
I also love the idea of XP and Leveling that Angelo suggested, perhaps that level and XP could be shared between the discord server and the railway website :o (e.g talking in discord increases that level too)
I also think giving users the ability to customize the style of their own public profile ( similar to how you can make a custom page for your game on itch.io ) would be pretty cool and could showcase the creativity of users on Railway and make public profiles more interesting to look at
Super excited to see the future of public profiles >:)

Side note with Leveling on Railway, could be neat to have it displayed as a badge of some kind next to your Railway account name on places like forums, for example:
https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/877920656795250741/1177936042909761606/image.png
( could obviously be customized to fit with the railway theme more, like showing trains instead of random arrows )

That's a cool idea.

The template details page now links to the creator's public profile if the creator has one enabled. Example template

Alongside public profiles, usernames are now live on forum!
If you have no username set, you'll be prompted to set your username when you login to forum
Anyone without a username set (or has not logged into forum after this change) will be shown as "Anonymous"

Maybe a bit late to the party, but you could include (public) templates on the profile too

We show published templates in the profile. Any reason you'd want public templates to show up there but not publish them instead?

I would love to see the similar way like GitHub [README.md](README.md)
, so we can custom it using markdown.
And some extra env var from Railway would be great. Like ${{RAILWAY_PUBLIC_SOMETHING}}

favorite stack to use, favorite repos or npms or whatever, favorite random utility (benchmark, keepalive, saas, whatever), link to connect on favorite platform (eg discord, telegram). recent bluesky/farcaster/x posts if linked and enabled. 'connect with me' on https://icebreaker.xyz/ (own-your-own-data linkedin alternative)

show which templates we've used or are actively using or forked.
language or languages used as a % across our services/apps

level up points for using more features. while railway follows the 'convention of configuration' the more settings you touch the more familiar you get with the platform. you get points for unique actions - forking env, setting up cron jobs, spinning up dbs etc. tracking this can also double as a way to see what features are getting used internally. no one wants to build another evernote. RIP.
tech stack familiarity based on which templates were deployed. I can easily track other devs who are frontend heavy or use tools similar to myself.
show which projects were deployed similar to githubs activity view without revealing any information of the service, last deployed 3 days ago unless we mark which projects are public and I would love to see what others are deploying + shill my own products. we work hard so I don't mind some recognition.

This is super cool! Yeah I think a github contribution graph or like top tech this person builds with would be neat. Badges based on projects and/or size.
Excited to see what this becomes

It's been some time since we gave this feature some love, but we will see what we can do to make this stuff more relevant for y'all.
