Hi Railway team,

I’m Kartick, an individual developer from India. I use the Railway to deploy my personal projects and applications. I really enjoy the product. The deploy experience, the clean dashboard and how little time I spend managing infrastructure are why the Railway is my first choice.

The one gap for me is location. I’m in India, and so are the people who use my applications. The closest region today is Southeast Asia, so every request has to leave the country and come back. From India, my app’s response time is taking a bit more latency, and most of that is network distance. When a page makes several API and database calls one after another, the delay adds up and the app feels slower than it should.

I’d also feel more comfortable keeping the data of Indian users within India, especially now that India’s data protection rules (the DPDP Act) are being rolled out.

I’d much rather keep all my projects on the Railway than move them to another provider just to get an Indian region. I believe many developers here feel the same way. India has one of the fastest-growing developer communities in the world, and an India region would make Railway an easy recommendation for all of us.

A couple of questions:

Is an India region on your roadmap? If so, is there a rough timeline?

Until then, what setup would you suggest keeping latency low for users in India?
