Stability of railway

Hey there, we migrated to Railway a few weeks ago. That was part of a major migration, away from firebase and to a node/postgres setup. As our deployment platform we chose Railway.

Generally speaking I am a huge fan of your platform. I like the idea, I like the features and it offers just the right amount of configuration/management on your end.

Your customer support so far has been absolutely great as well.

The problem is, we have experienced a lot of "turbulance" since we switched a few weeks ago. There were at least 2 outages that effected us.

One was a CDN one last week or so and the other is the storage deployments not working that is currently happening.

Of course we understand. that software development doesn't happen without bugs and problems, we build software as well so we completely get that, but we are really not off to a great start at this point and it becomes harder to justify internally why we shouldn't move to another more stable platform.

I want to believe that we just got unlucky with our timing, and the recent outages are exceptional and not the norm, but I would need some reassurance from your end to believe that.

What I am trying to say is, we are considering moving to another platform because of the outages, we don't want to make that move because it's a waste of resources but we need to know that Railway will remain stable into the future and that we can rely on it for our infrastructure, so if you can provide me with any reassurance or explanation of what's been going on recently then that would help a lot with our decision making.

Thanks,

Alex

Hey Alex,

I'm only speaking through my own experience - Its been a decent experience for me - mostly the DX has been great. In terms of reliability - I would not run anything that requires a cold start on railway, or anything that actually has strict uptime requirements or large amounts of traffic - however otherwise it has been a good experience with some downtime for my hobby and personal projects.

I have been on Railway for over six months and my app went live in June. Overall the experience has been good and I have been happy with the platform.

What changed my mind happened over the last two days. Railway shut down my services because an estimated usage amount crossed my set threshold, not the actual usage. Being taken offline based on a projection rather than real consumption is not something I can build on for a live product, so I have decided to migrate away to another platform.
