I've been doing pay-as-I-go by topping up credits. Last night, I got an email with no warning that says Your credits have run out. Now I can't top up my credits, it looks like i'm forced to upgrade to the Hobby plan. Is that correct?

Yes, you can't add credits to trial plan - it's meant to be temporary, you need to upgrade to hobby plan to use Railway long term
@Fragly Thanks, but I've been on Railway for 1.5 years now and I've never changed my plan
But I didn't get any communications about this… running out of credits, requiring a plan upgrade, etc
Actaully, looking back at the required Railway plan migrations from last summer, I must be on the Hobby plan, but the Railway UI says I'm on the Trial plan

perhaps you missed a payment while you were on Hobby plan causing you to be thrown onto Trial Plan?
I don't know. I topped up my account with credits a while back, but I never got an email stating credits were running low, which is what i typically get
I'm happy to add funds to the account if I used them all up, but this whole experience is strange

If you were on hobby plan and you somehow missed a payment then Railway would've shut down all your services until you paid the invoice
Last time I put money in the account was Jun 10, 2024, and I put in more than enough for 1 month of usage

if that has never happened then you might not have been on hobby plan at all, but you say you've been adding credits to your account which you can't do on trial plan

do you know when your railway dashboard has started saying that you're on trial plan?
I got an email 6 hours ago stating Your credits have run out and now the dashboard says Trial plan. I just upgraded to Hobby and I was able to add credits to the account like normal. No idea why I got downgraded to Trial, or why I didn't get a heads up that credits were running low.

after your credits run out you are automatically downgraded to the trial plan

oh, is that a credit-based plan thing?
I had to upgrade to hobby and then add credits as a second step. It would have been better to just see a Top up your account CTA. To the Railway team… don't make it hard for me to give you my money 😅

Credit-based plans aren’t the default, the workflow to join one is very rough atm
