Cannot add an apex (@) CNAME record for my website due to conflicts with NS records

I've just migrated my main website to Railway and went to setup my custom domain. It says that I must create an apex (@) CNAME record that points to Railway, but I cannot add this as it conflicts with my NS (nameserver) records.

My previous provider allowed me to setup my DNS using ALIAS/ANAME records. How do I handle this with Railway?

I should also note: I don't want a www. prefix, this isn't the 90s.

Hey, you would want to use Cloudflare's name servers as they support CNAME flattening. Here is Cloudflare's full set up docs: https://developers.cloudflare.com/dns/zone-setups/full-setup/setup/.

There's no way to do this within Railway without using additional services?

Other ways are not recommended.

If I use Cloudflare's free plan, am I restricted in any way? I was moving all my stuff over to Railway to save money, don't really want to also have to pay for Cloudflare on top of this.

Cloudflare's free plan is enough for this.

Well, after some faffing around and waiting for DNS to propogate that has worked perfectly. I've even managed to reduce some extra config I had setup for redirects into Cloudflare's rules.

Thanks for the help. 😊
