Charged $5 for Hobby Plan Despite Promotional Link

I recently created a new account using a promotional referral link intended to provide a $240 credit for the Hobby plan for one year.

I followed the provided instructions to upgrade to the Hobby plan and entered my billing details so the credits would apply. However, I was immediately charged $5.00 on my Visa (Invoice: PS7AWRTP-0001, dated July 10, 2026).

Could you please review my account, apply the promotional credits as intended, and process a refund for this $5.00 charge?

Thank you for your help.

that's intended, you will be charged for the first month to prevent fraud and afterwards it will take it from the credits

It states that you need to upgrade to the Hobby plan to receive the credits.

Instead of the system applying the $20 monthly credit to cover the cost as advertised, my card was instantly charged $5.00. The promotional link tracking failed on Railway's end. I just need the $5 refunded and the credits manually applied to this workspace.

You needed to upgrade to Hobby to activate the promotion.

The instructions states: "Upgrade to the Hobby plan and enter your credit card and billing details."

exactly what i meant with "you will be charged for the first month"

and afterwards it'll take from the credits

@Laura @pepper @Railway The deal terms explicitly contradict you.

The instructions state verbatim: "You will automatically receive $20 in monthly credits for 12 months. This covers the full cost of Hobby ($5) + $15 in usage."

There is no mention of paying for the first month out-of-pocket. The promo link simply failed to track during my signup.

**Please ****escalate **this to a billing manager **immediately **to refund the $5.00 and manually apply the credit to my account

go to usage, and check this.

@Laura I see the usage screenshot you shared. My own billing page also currently shows a "Current Bill" of $0.00, where the Hobby plan fee (+$5.00) is offset by credits (-$5.00).

However, you are completely missing the issue.

Stop redirecting me to dashboard metrics and escalate this to a billing manager who can actually reverse the Visa charge.

The first time you subscribe to a plan you are always charged directly to card regardless of any available credits

Hello, Railway team here.

Before that discount can apply you have to pay for the initial charge to subscribe to the hobby tier. In this instance, $5. After, any future monthly payments will be deducted from that credit balance
