Hi,
I have authorization from the owner of an application hosted on Railway to perform controlled performance/load testing.
The application is expected to serve approximately 5,000–10,000 users. We plan to use k6 and gradually increase the load while monitoring application performance and Railway resource usage.
The test will target only our application’s endpoints. We will not perform DoS/DDoS testing, test Railway infrastructure, or intentionally cause service disruption.
Before running the test, could you please confirm whether this type of controlled load testing is permitted on Railway and whether there are specific limits or recommendations regarding:
- Maximum requests per second (RPS)
- Maximum concurrent virtual users/connections
- Test duration
- Recommended ramp-up rate
- Whether Railway needs advance notification
Thank you.

can't speak for railway on permission or notification, that's staff, but the published limits cover most of your list:
10,000 concurrent connections
~11,000 RPS per domain
10,000 requests per connection
https://docs.railway.com/networking/public-networking/specs-and-limits same page says email team@railway.com for higher limits, probably the right channel for advance notice too.
at 5-10k users you're well under those, so your app's CPU/memory will be the bottleneck, not railway's edge.
two things before you run it:
make sure Under Attack Mode is off, it puts a browser challenge in front of every request and k6 can't pass it, so you'd be measuring blocks not performance: https://docs.railway.com/networking/waf
keep connection reuse on in k6, idle HTTP/1.1 connections close after 60s and each is capped at 10k requests, so disabling keep-alive will chew through the connection limit faster than you'd expect.
