Hello,
I am wondering if I could please get help with trying to connect a custom domain to one of my deployed instances on Runway. I am using UnstoppableDomains for my registrar. I have created a new A record with name of @ and Data of 35.212.162.221 - I got this ip address from digging it via the CLI from primary-production-a0f5.up.railway.app
Inside the Railway dashboard it says it is still issue a TLS certificate. I feel like I am doing something wrong. Thank you!

Railway does not provide static IP addresses for domains, please follow the docs to add your domain https://docs.railway.com/guides/public-networking
I see in the docs
For root or apex domains, the record type will vary, see below for more details
I click for more details but I don't think I'm sent to the anchor link. I'm not sure what to do.

you are correct! I’m not sure where that’s supposed to go.

Likely just continue reading and you’ll find your answer
can you please keep this open while I try some more in case I have a further question?

Looks like it should direct you to “Redirecting a Root Domain”
yep will do. I’ll close once you are able to add your domain
i have set this according to what I believe the documentation says, and currently when I load the domain (constantlycurious.net) I receive this warning:
This server could not prove that it is constantlycurious.net; its security certificate is from *.up.railway.app. This may be caused by a misconfiguration or an attacker intercepting your connection.

I'm a bit confused as to what the purpose of the _acme-challenge and * are?

What's your goal here? Are you trying to create nested subdomains?
If so, have you gone through all the steps in the docs, including purchasing Advanced Certificate Manager?
oh no I haven't purchased that. I apologize, I'm new to railway and to my DNS UnstoppableDomains. I have purchased constantlycurious.net and I would like to have it resolve to the the site I have built on railway

If all you are trying to do is have your root domain direct to your railway app, the steps are pretty simple. Follow these instructions https://docs.railway.com/guides/public-networking#custom-domains

You do not need a * or Acme challenge if you are not adding a wildcard domain

Or, transfer your domain to Cloudflare

they had told me this:
Just to note, there's actually an important limitation to be aware of: you technically cannot create a CNAME record at the root domain (with @) if you have other DNS records there, like MX records for email or NS records for your nameservers. This is because CNAME records are not allowed to coexist with other record types at the same DNS node.

so I am going to clarify with them just to see if I can delete the other records (the delete button is greyed out by default) so i am gonna just email them real quick

Tried to link it, it's specific to my account lol
a year ago
That's odd? I still suggest transferring to cloudflare
a year ago
Yes
okay thank you very much. i have just emailed my current registrar because ideally i will make this work since they said I have to wait 60 days for ICANN rules to transfer it
a year ago
Wouldn't just using Cloudflare's name server(s) solve this? In this case, you wouldn't need to transfer the domain to Cloudflare.
Thanks for the suggestion! Domains aren't my specialty lol
a year ago
That would work as well

Seems like it, yes!

Indeed
okay this seems like a spectacular resource thank you. i am reading about it now and trying to figure it out. can we still keep this open until I do though please?
thank you for keeping this open. i have been out of the country. i am back. these are the settings i currently have in Cloudflare, but I just can't figure out how to make it work. i don't understand how i can connect railway to cloudflare to my domain, I keep trying to follow the documentation. this is what I see in railway

what doesnt work? looks all good to me
when i go to constantlycurious.net i get this

please see our docs on that error -
i have switched SSL/TLS to full per the doc, but when I type in my domain name it now seems to just redirect it to the railway page as opposed to showing the domain name

for wordpress, after adding a custom domain you need to redeploy
