It seems that GoDaddy doesn't allow a CNAME record with the name of "@", as it reserves that one for its own uses. I tried to use an HTTPS record with the name "@" instead, but no luck. Any advice, and maybe some insider knowledge of how Railway's internal DNS works? Thank you!

I'd recommend using Cloudflare as a DNS server instead

Awesome, if that old thread doesn't help - i have a very detailed message on how to use Cloudflare as a DNS server here:

While we're here, would you mind sharing your quick few pros and cons of what you consider are you top 3 providers?

top 3 providers regarding?

domains?
Okay also, just saw that there's some regulation from ICANN that I can only move the domain between top-level domain vendors after 60 days of ownership
So would really appreciate some kindof workaround to use GoDaddy here. I'm intending to launch a project by end of week

I like Namecheap a lot so I'd have to put that at number 1, not for any real reason other than just having been using it for a long time. I appreciate that it is a domain service first and foremost, it doesn't shove anything else in your face. It's also one of the few DNS servers that allows root level CNAMEs, which is nice
I'd place Cloudflare at second, I don't really like Cloudflare cause its routing is very bad for my region (South Africa) but if it wasn't for that, very extensive platform with a lot of features, most of which I wish Namecheap had
I can't really in good conscious recommend any other domain providers because I don't know of any other than has root level CNAME support, and if you're using Railway then that's pretty much a requirement

Isn't that just for changing registrars though? You don't need to change registrars, you just need to change name servers (through NS records)

oh nvm just googled it and it seems changing nameservers is part of that

that's not good, let me think 🤔
Railway just needs to become a domain registrar now lol they already do basically everything else

I think what I'd do in this situation is use a non root-level CNAME for now, like www
you can then redirect everything on the root of the domain to the www subdomain
then when you're allowed to, you can move to Cloudflare and start using the root level domain

for real!!!
So I can't control redirects within my project. I still need to establish some sort of DNS alias no?

I've never used GoDaddy but check if it has some kind of redirect record which you can use to redirect to www
Namecheap's redirect records are funny so I've been using domain-forward.com for that, which you could use as a last resort
