DNS Records not accepting @

Hey guys,

Please could anybody perhaps assist?

I am running a domain from South Africa, my domain provider is Domains.co.za

My DNS settings for tillr.co.za says I need to put an "@" at the hostname for my DNS record, however my domain service provider does not accept that... I have tried to leave it blank, but still with no luck...

The subdomain for www.tillr.co.za works perfectly, just not for tillr.co.za

Any help is appreciated.

Kind Regards,

Heinrich

Your apex domain (tillr.co.za) requires a CNAME record pointing to the Railway-provided value, but most DNS providers (including yours) don't support CNAME records at the root/apex level per DNS standards. Your provider likely doesn't accept "@" as the hostname because of this limitation. The recommended workaround is to switch your domain's nameservers to Cloudflare, which supports CNAME flattening at the root level, allowing you to set a CNAME for "@" that resolves correctly. Our docs on adding a root domain cover this in detail.
