I'm new to railway and I really want to move from heroku to railway. However I do notice on the free plan my database tends to just go to sleep when not in use. Is that because it doesn't want to incure charges? Does that change when you are on hobby? I want to move to railway but want to know if I need my database to be avaible will it randomly shutdown on me.

Hello,

On a paid plan you can stop your database from going to sleep.

On the Free plan serverless (or app sleeping) is permanently enabled, but once you upgrade to paid you can disable that.

Best,

Brody

Gotcha I have one more follow up question and I swear it'll be the end. How much are you charged per hour. I know there is a base charge but I couldn't find the page that told me how much I would be getting charged based on the running services

Of course, we're happy to help!

Railway's pricing is based on a subscription plus resource usage. On the Hobby plan, which costs $5 per month, you get $5 worth of resource usage included. This means if your usage exceeds the $5 included credit, you'll only be charged for the additional usage beyond that. You can find detailed information about our pricing plans here.

If you're curious about how much specific services might cost based on their usage, it would be good to monitor your resource usage regularly. You can do this by in your account usage page, which helps track the resources your projects are consuming.

You can also set up usage limits to get alerts / perform specific actions when your usage reaches a certain point https://docs.railway.com/reference/usage-limits

Hope that helps!

Best,
The Railway Team
