There's no direct downgrade button from Hobby to Free. You'll need to cancel your Hobby subscription from your billing settings, and once the current billing period ends, the Free plan option will appear on the Plans page for you to activate.

but when i do that, it says that all my deployments will be stopped. That doesnt sound like a downgrade; it sounds like things will be cancelled

Cancelling the Hobby subscription does stop your deployments, but your plan stays active through Jul 12, 2026 as shown in the dialog, and once that billing period ends the Free plan option will appear on the Plans page for you to activate.

so you are saying that the following will happen if i cancel the hobby sub:
- all my deployments are terminated
- once billing period ends, i have the option to be on the Free plan
- i need to manually restart all my deploment
is this correct? it is very not user friendly to force deployments to be terminated

When you cancel the Hobby subscription, deployments are stopped immediately to prevent further charges, though Hobby access continues through the end of the billing period (Jul 12, 2026 as shown). Once that period ends, the Free plan option appears on the Plans page for you to activate, and you would then need to redeploy your services with App Sleeping enabled, which is required on Free.

We understand the frustration. Unfortunately, there is no seamless in-place downgrade from Hobby to Free, and cancelling the subscription does stop deployments immediately. This is the only path to move to the Free plan. You can share product feedback at feedback.railway.com.
