Hello Railway team,

A failed environment patch is blocking Railway Bucket provisioning in my production environment.

Project ID: 6c13d543-0804-467a-acce-61086c4c4fbd

Environment ID: e580bc83-02f0-4a74-92af-8724bcedc9ca

Backup service ID: bb347bcd-28d8-4f9f-8fa5-1666d46fc0fe

Failed patch ID: b2a9d7d1-4f88-4ebd-b09f-98d3ea255980

Additional staged patch ID: 707c3717-0ffb-426d-b91b-34493c006ad2

The Railway bucket creation tool initially staged a private bucket named “sci-db-backups”, but the commit workflow failed. The bucket was not created in the live environment.

Further attempts return:

“Cannot modify patch b2a9d7d1-4f88-4ebd-b09f-98d3ea255980 with status FAILED (must be STAGED)”

The discard operation reports success, but the environment status still shows patch 707c3717-0ffb-426d-b91b-34493c006ad2 as STAGED with 34 changes.

Please clear or recover these stuck patch states without modifying the running PostgreSQL, API, worker, or backup service. I need to provision a private Railway Bucket and complete a production backup/restore verification.

No credentials or database data are included in this report.

No buckets exist in this project's production environment, and all four services there are deploying and running normally, so the failed patch did not modify your live infrastructure. The STAGED patch with 34 changes is what to address: in the dashboard, open the project canvas for that environment and use the Discard Changes option in the overflow (three-dot) menu on the staged-changes banner. If you are working through the API, the environmentStageChanges mutation called with an empty input replaces the staged contents with an empty set, which is the same operation.

I followed the suggested recovery action. The staged changes were discarded through the Railway API tool three times, and each operation returned “All staged changes have been discarded.”

However, an independent environment status request still reports:

Patch ID: 707c3717-0ffb-426d-b91b-34493c006ad2

Patch status: STAGED

Change count: 34

Buckets: []

Therefore, the patch was not actually cleared and bucket provisioning remains blocked. Please escalate this to a Railway engineer and clear the stuck patch server-side.

The environment's current staged state is a single FAILED patch with 1 change, not a STAGED patch with 34 changes. The failure reason recorded on that patch is "Bucket region undefined is invalid", meaning the bucket creation was attempted without a valid region. The "Cannot modify patch with status FAILED" error you saw earlier is expected: it means that patch id is from the failed row, which cannot be reopened. Your tooling is reporting a different view of the patch history than the environment's actual staged state, which is why the 34-change count does not match. No buckets were provisioned and all four services in the production environment are running normally. To provision your bucket, create it again specifying one of the available regions: sjc, iad, ams, or sin.
