gihub branch not connected

Hi Railway team,

I’m trying to connect a GitHub branch to an existing Railway deployment, but the GitHub integration option doesn’t seem to appear anywhere in the UI.

Expected flow (what I’m trying to do):

  • Open Railway project
  • Connect a GitHub repository or branch
  • Configure deployment from that branch

Current issue:

The GitHub option simply isn’t visible, so I can’t link the repo or branch to the deployment.

Things I’ve already checked:

  • Logged in via GitHub
  • Verified repo exists
  • Checked project settings and deployment settings
  • Refreshed and retried

Environment:

  • Browser: Firefox on macOS
  • Railway account connected to GitHub

Could you help me understand:

  1. Where the GitHub connection should appear in the UI?
  2. Whether this is a permissions/integration issue?
  3. If there’s a different way to attach a branch to an existing deployment?

Happy to provide screenshots if needed.

Thanks!

hey, most likely your railway github app doesn't have access to that specific repo on the github side. go to github -> settings -> applications → installed github apps -> find railway -> click configure -> then under "repository access" make sure your repo is listed there. once you do that, go back to railway and the repo should show up

No. I checked that multiple times. It has access to all repos in my account. I also tried giving access to specific repo, but still it is not showing up.

ok try a full uninstall + reinstall of the railway github app. go to github settings -> applications -> railway app -> uninstall it completely, then go back to railway and reconnect github from scratch. not just disconnect/reconnect, a full uninstall on the github side

I can see that your GitHub Connection is working and we can access your repos.

Can you clarify what you mean with "connect a branch to an existing deployment"?

What you would usually do:

  • Either create a new Service with a GitHub Repo: Click "+ Add" in the top right of the project, select "GitHub Repository" and select a repo. See the attached screenshot.
  • Or you update an existing service, if it is a GitHub Service. See the attached screenshot.

What are you seeing/trying to do?
