The values are hidden by default until you click the view "eye" icon.

Unless you are asking how to hide the entire variable from even showing up in the first place? if so, at this time there wouldn't be a way to do that.

would it be possible to have variables show up, but the values are not viewable?

i.e. the values can be overwritten, but a user cannot go into the system and view/copy the values after they are entered and saved.

Sorry Railway does not offer that level of control over what team members can do right now.

Thanks for the info. For clarification, this is not about level of control but more that the Values of the Env variables are never shown, only the keys are.

This would allow sensitive values to saved as variables. Are the values encrypted on Railway's end? Having the values be viewable means that any secrets are accessible to all team members that can log in. Non viewable would mean nobody can view the existing values

Yes variables are encrypted at Railway's end, there's even an awesome blog post about it - https://blog.railway.app/p/envelope-encryption

But at this time there is no way to control who on your team can view what variable, this is what I meant when I mentioned control.

This would be nice. Unfortunately right now I think all team members can view the variables tab for a service. We should improve that.
