How Does Account Linking Work for the PR Environment?

Hello!!

We are in the process of setting up a PR environment on a Railway project. To do this, I added one of our employees' email (john@example.com) to a Railway TEAM. We then tried to link the accounts by following these steps:

  • He added this email to his list of GitHub emails via: GitHub Email Settings (it is not his primary email on GitHub).

  • He set the email used for his commits in the repository via git config user.email "john@example.com".

  • He connected his Railway account with GitHub via: Railway Account.

For each step, he created a new PR but always received the error message below (screenshot).

We are not sure what we need to do to make the linking work correctly. Does his primary email on GitHub need to be the same as on Railway? This would be quite inconvenient if that is the case.

Another question: Does the PR environment also work if we add access to an email in the members of a PROJECT and not in the TEAM?

Thank you!

Hello !

The screenshots are not transferred from the Discord forum. I'll put it here grinning emoji

For my second question "Does the PR environment also work if we add access to an email in the members of a PROJECT and not in the TEAM?" I got my answer by continuing my tests: it's possible.

We successfully linked through the primary emails of the GitHub accounts, but it's not very convenient not to be able to use the company email. It would be nice if the link worked with the GitHub account linked to the Railway account, or if it took into emails aliases on GitHub.

Super sorry, didn't see this was a discord thread 🫠

For this to work properly, you'll need to add the user to the team, not the project.

Best,

Nicolas

If I'm not mistaken, they did state that they added the user to the team.
