I just connect to the DB download a copy of its contents every now and then, pretty easy with MongoDB via MongoDB Compass, not sure what the process looks like on other databases though

Cannot understand why hobby cannot use backup... if I know before upgrade, maybe I will consider a little more...

Hobby plan is only meant to cater for hobbyist developers and odds are if you're hosting a project that requires automatic backups then its likely outside the scope of a hobbyist project

also, you can still do backups to S3 or any other storage provider by using templates, it's really easy to set up as Fragly mentioned
