i cant create a cname for @ , as 123-reg doesnt support it, ive created a forwarder for @ to www.mydomain.co.uk and also created a record for that without issue, but i cant create a @ cname forwarder for the domain mydomain.co.uk and railway isnt passing the setup?

since 123-reg cant do cname flattening at the apex the forwarder wont cut it for railway so easiest fix is to keep your domain at 123-reg but just point your nameservers to cloudflare (its free) then in cloudflare add a cname record for @ pointing to your railway hostname, cloudflare handles the flattening behind the scenes and railway will verify it no problem. no need to move your domain anywhere just swap the nameservers
