Hi there,
after getting the mail from railway that the new metal regions are live and soon everything is being migrated over I made the switch for my little application and saw a 14x increase in request times. I have a database attached to it which still runs in the regular region.
Any idea why the huge increase?

It's always recommended to make sure the database is running in the same region as the service else latency will increase.
For now, we are still working on adding volumes to Metal. So you should only use it for services that doesn't connect to databases.
