I’m planning to migrate my infrastructure from the US to Europe and would appreciate some insights from the community.
Currently, all my services are hosted in the US, with my SQL Server running on AWS (Oregon). I’m considering moving my SQL Server to Europe, along with my services hosted on Railway.
Before making this transition, I’d like to understand the performance and reliability of Railway in the European region. Specifically:
- How is the latency within Europe?
- Have users experienced any delays or performance issues?
- How stable are Railway’s servers in Europe overall?
I want to emphasize that this is not a criticism of the Railway team—I simply want to make an informed decision before proceeding with the migration.
Thanks in advance for your insights!

Our EU West region is located in Amsterdam, Netherlands, and all regions provide the same experience, performance, and reliability. You can change a service's region at any time in service settings without any changes to your domains or private networking, and there will be no downtime unless the service has a volume attached (volumes require migration, which causes temporary downtime). For best latency, make sure your SQL Server in Europe and your Railway services are in the same region to avoid cross-region database query latency. More details are in our Regions documentation.
