Need temporary access to export data - trial expired, payment card issues

Hi Railway Support team,

I'm a university student and my project's trial period has expired. I understand my service has been removed, but I need to urgently export my MySQL database, which contains research/survey response data critical for my undergraduate thesis (skripsi).

I've tried upgrading to the Hobby plan with two different cards, but all of them were declined by the payment processor. I don't currently have another card available, and I'm trying to resolve this on my end as well.

Could you please help me with either of these options:

  1. Temporarily reactivate my MySQL service so I can run a database export/dump, even briefly, or
  2. Provide a direct database backup/export of my data, since I understand volumes are retained even after a service is removed.

Project details:

  • Project name: hanipets
  • Environment: production

This data is time-critical for my academic work, so any help you can offer would mean a lot. Thank you so much for understanding.

Best regards

Erika Catryna

Your MySQL volume data (~158 MB) is still retained on our storage, so nothing has been lost. To regain access, you'll need to subscribe to a paid plan at your workspace billing page. Once the subscription is active, your services will resume and you can connect to MySQL and run your export. We're not able to temporarily reactivate services or provide database exports on stopped accounts. Regarding the card declines, please note that prepaid and virtual cards are not supported. A bank-issued credit card is required.

"Card declined with inconsistent error messages — need help exporting data (trial expired)

Hi, thank you for confirming that my database volume is still intact. I attempted to subscribe to the Hobby plan as suggested, but I'm still unable to complete the payment.

I've noticed the error message changes each time I try:

  • Sometimes: "Your card was declined for an unknown reason."
  • Sometimes: "Your card does not support this type of purchase."
  • Most recently: "Your card has been declined."

I've tried 2 different Mastercard cards, and also tried removing Stripe Link autofill and entering details manually — same result every time. This inconsistency makes me think it might be something on Stripe/Railway's end blocking the charge rather than purely my bank rejecting it, but I'm not sure.

Since you've confirmed my database is still there, could you please help with either of these:

  1. Investigate why these purchases keep failing for my account specifically, or
  2. Grant temporary access to my MySQL service so I can export my data, without requiring the subscription payment to succeed first.

This is very time-sensitive as the data is for my university thesis. I'd really appreciate your help getting this resolved. Thank you.

The varying decline messages ("unknown reason", "does not support this type of purchase", "has been declined") across multiple cards typically indicate the cards are not bank-issued credit cards, as debit, prepaid, and virtual cards are not supported by our payment processor. Please stop retrying for now, as repeated failed attempts can trigger additional fraud protection blocks that make future attempts harder. To resolve this, try with a bank-issued credit card (not debit or prepaid) and, if possible, contact your bank beforehand to authorize the $5 charge. Your volume data is safely retained and will remain available once a subscription is activated.
