Hello Railway Support,
My trial has expired and my service no longer has an active deployment.
I have an existing volume containing important data that I need to recover to my local computer.
Project: illustrious-expression
Service: WhaleHunterAI
Environment: production
Volume: whalehunterai-volume
Mount path: /data
Current volume usage: approximately 232 MB
The Railway dashboard says that this volume is scheduled to be deleted on October 12, 2026.
The volume is still visible and Railway CLI can detect it. However, when I try to list or download its files using the Railway CLI, I receive this message:
"Service WhaleHunterAI has no active deployment in environment production. Deploy or restart the service before using file commands."
All recent deployments are shown as REMOVED, and my trial has expired, so I cannot start a deployment without upgrading.
I only need to recover/download the existing files from this volume. I do not need to continue hosting or running the application.
Could you please temporarily enable access to the volume so I can download the data, or provide an official way to export the volume contents without starting a paid deployment?
Because the volume is scheduled for deletion on October 12, 2026, I would greatly appreciate any assistance before that date.
Thank you.

The volume is still attached to the WhaleHunterAI service in production, and the CLI file commands only work through an active deployment of the service the volume is attached to. That means they can't list or download its files while every deployment is removed.
To get a deployment running, subscribe to the Hobby plan from your workspace's Plans page using "Deploy with Hobby" and then "Subscribe to Hobby Plan". Once the subscription is active, we automatically try to recover the deployments that were stopped in the workspace, and the existing volume is mounted for the new deployment. If the service doesn't come back on its own, redeploy it from the dashboard. With the deployment running, you can download the files from /data with the CLI.

We don't provide read-only access to a stopped volume or export its contents on your behalf. The CLI file commands only work through an active deployment of the service the volume is attached to.
After a trial expires, access comes back by subscribing to a plan from your workspace billing page. Once the service is deployed again with the volume mounted, you can download the files yourself with the CLI before the scheduled deletion date.

Thank you. I understand the standard policy.
Since this volume contains important data and is scheduled for deletion on October 12, 2026, could a human Railway support team member please confirm whether there is any one-time data recovery option or temporary access available in this situation?
I am only trying to recover the existing 232 MB of data before it is permanently deleted.
Thank you.

We understand the October 12 deadline makes this stressful. We don't offer a one-time recovery option or temporary access to a volume on an expired trial, and we don't export volume contents on a customer's behalf. You can subscribe to a Hobby plan and then cancel if you need to recover the data.
