Pricing Clarification

can someone explain what this means:

Note: For users with at least 80 percent usage on Railway hosted metal instances, all seat costs will be waived.

we are a team of 3, ideally only 1 person need access to railway. but since railway only allow auto deployment to be done on commits from team members ig i would have purchase 3 steats? (3*20) for pro + resource usage?

You are correct. If you want auto deployment for all your team members, you will need to purchase seats for each member

As for the Metal explanation, take a read through the docs here

Once 80% of your usage for a given monthly period is on Metal as opposed to on GCP, your seat costs will be waived

i did, so if i use metal for all my deployments i dont have to pay for seats?

so 20$ + resource usage, thats it?

Yes, that's correct

i read somewhere saying by july 2025 all instance will be migrated to metal, so from that period their wont be any seat based billing anyway?

Yes, the team announced that a while back. Technically yes, though it could be possible that a user who's deployments have been running on GCP still sees seat costs for that month as > 20% of their usage may have been on GCP

but from that month forward, seat costs will be gone. The team will likely release some sort of pricing update then

ok thanks for the help

one more thing

currently we only have a App used internally by a client 1 backend and 1 frontend (around 50-60 active users) its prod and dev environment.

and other public app under development 1 backend and 2 frontend with 2 environment dev and beta. we are expecting around 30-50 beta testers

so is it ok to go for hobby plan or is pro mandatory?

If you have clients, you should be on the pro plan. There are many benefits to the pro plan, including guaranteed support from the team in case of an outage or any other issue that may require team support

If someone is paying you for your services, you don't want to leave them without support.

gotit

what i was curious about was is it against railways TOS to be on hobby plan for this use case

i was planning to go for hobby for a month or 2 and if eveything goes well switch to pro

From the docs:

1377279829065597109

No one will chase you down for running pro workloads on hobby, but you are taking a risk

gotit, hobby doesnt have team support anyway right

Technically no, though if you have a billing issue or a clear platform issue, conductors can raise threads to the Railway team

i mean the teams seats and autodeployment

Business Class SLA response times here

It will reduce the cost, but storage is still billed for sure.
