Hello Railway Support,

I need a PTR (reverse DNS) record configured for my email verification

service in the attractive-analysis project.

Project Details:

- Project Name: attractive-analysis

- Service Name: mrx-email-validation

- Environment: production

- Custom Domain: api.mrx-mailvalidation.com

Current Infrastructure:

- Railway subdomain: 274b15az.up.railway.app

- IP Address: 66.33.22.121 (obtained via nslookup)

- Domain registrar: Namecheap

- DNS configured: CNAME api.mrx-mailvalidation.com

274b15az.up.railway.app

PTR Record Requested:

66.33.22.121 → mrx-mailvalidation.com

Use Case:

I'm running an SMTP-based email verification service that connects to

mail servers (Gmail, Outlook, etc.) to verify email deliverability. A

PTR record is required for:

- Proper email server reputation

- Preventing connection rejections from mail servers

- SMTP EHLO command acceptance

The service replaces third-party email finders (Icypeas/LeadMagic) and

will process 1000-5000 leads per month for our business development

platform.

Please let me know if you need any additional information or if there

are any requirements I need to meet for PTR configuration.

Thank you!

Hi,

I'm not really sure what question you're asking here, Railway will not add any records for you.

Regardless, SMTP is completely disabled on the Hobby plan. You will need to upgrade to Pro to access SMTP.

PTR Record Configuration for Pro Plan SMTP Service

I upgraded to PRO - SMTP port 25 is working on my Pro plan service! I've

confirmed successful connections to Gmail and Outlook mail servers (220

response codes).

Test Results:

Gmail SMTP: Connection successful (220)

Outlook SMTP: Connection successful (220)

Test endpoint: XXX

Request:

For better email reputation and deliverability, I need PTR (reverse DNS)

record configuration:

- Current IP: [Railway-assigned IP]

- Desired PTR: XXX

Questions:

1. Does Railway configure PTR records for Pro plan services?

2. Do I need a static/dedicated IP for PTR configuration?

3. If PTR is not available, what are recommended alternatives for SMTP

reputation?

Use Case:

Legitimate email verification service (SMTP RCPT TO verification) -

processes ~5,000 leads/month, replaces third-party services like

Icypeas.

Thank you!

  1. Railway does not configure any PTR records.

  2. You can assign a static outgoing IP address to your service. Information here: https://docs.railway.com/reference/static-outbound-ips

  3. I do not know enough about SMTP reputation to answer that unfortunately.
