The main thing im tryna sus out here is if I should go ahead with buying the hobby plan now, however i dont just wanna throw money at the wall

it would add 5 euro to my account right? would it then charge me every month or only when those 5 euro have been used up
When you subscribe to Hobby plan it won't add any credits to your account, but what it does give you is a monthly free 5 usd of usage. What this means is that you'll only have to pay for usage that exceeds 5 usd in cost, meaning if you use 8usd of usage you only pay for 3 usd of that usage
This doesn't mean the plan is free if you use under 5usd though, because the plan itself still costs 5usd, that's the baseline cost for Hobby. Essentially you're paying for the account and for usage occured that exceeds 5usd.

but it still charges me 5 a month?
yes, because Railway is a subscription service
no matter how much i use?
Assuming it's under 5usd yes, but if you exceed 5usd in usage cost then you're billed the extra

Here's another way you can think about it: you pay only for the resources you use but the minimum is 5usd
-# This is not exactly what the plan entails but it ultimately results in the same thing, just another way of thinking about it
damn, then its not really worth it right now, as in a month ive only used 5 cents of my credit
guess i gotta look at different options, but railway is definitely the platform ill use when i deploy to prod

You can probably stay on the free plan then, though I'm not sure how you'd move from a trial plan to free plan though, I'll ask about that

To be clear, the plan you were on was Trial plan, which Railway sunset in favor for a free plan which you can use indefinitely

I asked about moving from Trial plan to Free plan, I'll get back to you once I have a response

@Josh Alright I'm back, you can move to the Free plan by going to your account's plans page:
at the bottom of the page you should find an option to move to the free plan
