Railway agent's updateServiceTool silently fails for setting variables

Using the Railway agent's updateServiceTool to set a variable fails (the variable is not changed) and it fails silently. This might be the same error as someone else reported where adding a stray space at the start or end causes a silent failure.

Could I get a bit more info on what/how you were doing it?

Would love to hear the flow you were doing to get to this

I was working with Claude Code which aimed to set those variables for me using the updateServiceTool. Claude Code executed the command to change two variables and got no feedback that they were failing to set. In the end the only way I was able to set those variables was to use the Railway.com UI manually.

Heya, escalated this to the engineer working on the tool.

Thanks for flagging!

Hi! Nico and I chatted on this and I did find a bug that would cause the scenario you've outlined here! Thank you for bringing it up. I got a fix in for it that should solve it; but definitely going to be monitoring the situation!

Let us know if it happens again for sure!
