like whats the purpose of the mount?
Railway deployments take place in an ephemeral container, like a docker container. These containers are destroyed when the deployment is removed, to persist files you mount a volume which stores the files outside of the container so that the files stay safe even when the deployment is removed.

Backups on Railway allows you to take a snapshot of the contents of a volume so you can restore it later, these backups can also be automatic. It's worth mentioning that the backup only happens on the volume, not the entire container
