I need to recover data from an existing Railway volume attached to a service
that is now fully stopped.
The volume is still READY and contains approximately 813 MB of data.
I specifically need a byte-preserved, read-only export of one directory from
the volume without starting/restarting/redeploying the original application,
and preferably without creating another deployment.
Self-service SSH/SFTP access appears to require an active deployment.
Is there an official Railway-supported way to:
- download files from a READY volume with no active deployment, or
- request a platform-side read-only export of the volume?
I do not want to attach/detach, restore, wipe, resize, redeploy, or create a
billable backup/resource just to recover the existing data.
If this requires Railway staff rather than a community solution, please tell
me the correct support/escalation path available for a Hobby workspace.
Thank you.

You can’t access the volume without deploying the service or detatching it to attach it to another service.
You’d need to deploy the service to access the volume via the filebrowser (in the Console tab), or you’ll need to deploy a Filebrowser service and mount your volume to that.

Thanks. Before we redeploy or detach anything, could Railway staff confirm whether a platform-side read-only export of the existing persistent volume is possible?
Volume ID: 15a62b8b-833f-413f-831b-43cc0fa27983
Volume instance ID: 30a09e4c-4adc-4702-9aa2-a681b9e03097
We need a byte-preserved off-platform copy without:
- deploying/restarting the service,
- detaching or swapping the volume,
- restoring to another volume,
- modifying the existing volume,
- creating any new paid resource.
If Railway can provide such an export, please also provide a checksum or immutable snapshot/export identifier.
If this is not possible even by Railway staff, please explicitly confirm that accessing/exporting this stopped volume requires a deployment or volume detach/reattach.

I've stated the requirements to access a volume above.

Thanks, understood.
One final question before we proceed with our own recovery deployment:
Does Railway offer any paid, staff-assisted volume recovery/export service where Railway could provide us with a byte-preserved downloadable copy of this existing volume without us deploying or detaching it?
Volume ID: 15a62b8b-833f-413f-831b-43cc0fa27983
Volume instance ID: 30a09e4c-4adc-4702-9aa2-a681b9e03097
We would be happy to consider a reasonable one-time fee if Railway can perform the export safely on the platform side.
Ideally, we would need:
- byte-preserved export of the existing volume;
- no modification of the source volume;
- no application/collector deployment;
- downloadable off-platform copy;
- checksum or immutable export/snapshot identifier, if available.
If such a service exists, could you please tell us the price and procedure?
If Railway does not offer this even as a paid/manual service, a simple confirmation would be enough and we’ll proceed with our own recovery method.
Thank you.
