Request to increase the volume limit for our Railway project

Hello Railway Support Team,

I would like to request an increase to the volume limit for one of our Railway projects.

The project currently contains 17 database services, including PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and Redis. Each database service uses a persistent volume. We now need to add another PostgreSQL database, but Railway prevents us from creating its volume and displays a message stating that the project has reached the limit of 20 volumes.

At first, this limit did not appear consistent with the 17 database volumes visible in the project. However, the project has both production and staging environments with similar service configurations. Therefore, I am unsure whether the 20-volume limit is calculated:

  • Separately for each environment;
  • Across all environments within the project; or
  • Including volumes that may still exist from removed services or previous configurations.

We need to add more PostgreSQL databases to both our production and staging environments. Could you please review the project’s current volume usage and increase its volume limit?

Please also let us know whether there are any inactive, orphaned, or otherwise hidden volumes being included in the current count.

Project details:

  • Project ID: cccf3335-9cd9-44eb-b28d-c58756556844
  • Current environments: production and staging
  • Visible database services: 17
  • Requested volume limit: 40

This increase is important for the continued operation and expansion of our microservices architecture.

Thank you for your assistance.

Best regards,

Nathan Bahia

The limit counts volumes per project, not per environment. A service's volume counts once no matter how many environments it exists in, so your 17 services with volumes in both production and staging count as 17, and the 4 services that only have a volume in staging bring the total to 21. We checked the project and every volume is attached to an existing service, so there are no orphaned or hidden volumes in the count.

We've raised the per-project volume limit on this project's workspace to 40, so you can add the new PostgreSQL databases to both environments now.
