Hi all,
I’m planning to build a simple web app where users can write short sentences and generate phone background images (which they can then download) Not using AI API, only use ready made images. It will be used in a live session with 1,000 to 10,000 users accessing it at the same time.
The project isn’t on Railway yet — I’m still deciding on the best hosting option.
A bit about me: I’m not a professional developer (I’m a UI/UX designer by background), but I’ve been developing the MVP myself using basic tools (likely with a Node.js backend and server-side image generation).
I’m hoping to get advice on:
Whether Railway is suitable for this kind of bursty traffic.
What kind of plan or infrastructure setup you'd recommend.
An estimate of monthly server cost, including bandwidth and compute.
Any tips for handling high simultaneous traffic on Railway (caching, scaling, etc.).
Thanks so much in advance — I’d really appreciate any guidance!

Hi,
What you mentioned is small potatoes for us, we can support your use-case.
This is entirely dependent on what you have deployed. I recommend checking out your resource usage under https://railway.app/account/usage and looking at projects consuming high resources, and troubleshoot why it's doing so.
Unfortunately, we can't assist you further with figuring out why your bill is higher than normal - it's out of our control, and akin to asking a utility company "why is my water bill high". We only know how much resources you consume.
If you'd like to control your spending on Railway, I highly suggest enabling Usage Limits (https://docs.railway.app/reference/usage-limits).
Hopefully this helps!
