So I recently bought this domain(swahili.live) but I cannot add it on railway. I realized that this is because it had previously been used on railway by someone else who didn't renew it.
Now that I own I would like it delinked from any old services so I can add it to my own.

We can remove the domain for you, but we need to verify ownership first. Please add a TXT record at _railway.verify.swahili.live with the value k7xm4p2w and reply here once it has propagated.

The TXT record is not getting picked up no matter how many times I change. Can I use a cname record(tested and this is getting picjked up)

Unfortunately we do need the TXT record specifically, a CNAME won't work for this verification. Your DNS is on Namecheap's nameservers - in their dashboard, add a TXT record with host _railway.verify (not the full _railway.verify.swahili.live) and value k7xm4p2w. Namecheap appends the domain automatically, so using the full name would create a record at _railway.verify.swahili.live.swahili.live. Once updated, give it 10-15 minutes and reply back.
