I want to ask what the flow is like when a template is connected to a github repo rather than a docker image, and then the main branch is updated. Does the user get a prompt to update or it happens automatically?

yep, by the service owner. There's also the case of the user ejecting the service (basically Railway doing a fork of that repository) which is also that own thing

I don't know what you're doin but I would recommend using ghcr.io for templates. Also speed up the build times a little bit
