Hi Railway Support,
I'm investigating an intermittent connectivity issue between Shopify and my Railway-deployed application, and I'd like to get help from someone familiar with Railway's networking infrastructure.
Shopify reports that requests to my application sometimes fail because the connection/handshake times out.
Initially, my setup was:
Shopify → Cloudflare → Railway
I suspected Cloudflare might be involved, so I disabled the Cloudflare proxy completely (DNS-only) for several days. The issue still occurred, so the affected requests are now going directly:
Shopify → Railway
During one of the failures, Railway's network logs showed an ingress TCP flow with the following characteristics:
flowState: partial
l4Protocol: tcp
direction: ingress
peerKind: internet
l4LatencyMs: 5
packetCount: 11
byteCount: 5750
dropCause: UNKNOWN_104The source of the connection was a Shopify IP, and the flow occurred at approximately:
2026-09-04 20:32 UTC
The application is deployed in Railway's US East region.
The particularly interesting part is that the flow was marked as partial and had:
dropCause: UNKNOWN_104Could someone please clarify:
- What does
UNKNOWN_104mean? - What does
flowState: partialindicate? - Does this indicate that Railway dropped/terminated the connection, or could it mean that the remote side stopped sending/closed the connection?
- Was the connection successfully established at Railway's edge?
- Is there anything in Railway's networking/edge infrastructure that could cause an intermittent TCP/TLS handshake timeout like this?
I've already removed Cloudflare from the request path and the issue continues, so I'm trying to determine whether the failure is occurring at the Shopify → Railway network layer or somewhere within Railway's infrastructure.
I'd appreciate any insight from someone who can interpret these network-flow fields or investigate the corresponding flow internally.
Thank you.

We've looked into this from our side and haven't found anything on the Railway platform that explains what you're seeing, so working it out means digging into your specific setup.
That's exactly what the Railway community is good at, so we'd like to open your thread as a community bounty. Railway pays a bounty to the community member who solves it, and threads like this usually get picked up quickly.
Opening it makes this entire thread public, including everything already posted. Nothing becomes public until you decide. Use the buttons below.
- Open to the community - Before you click, take a moment to edit or remove anything you'd rather not share. The thread becomes publicly visible right away.
- Keep it private and close the thread - Nothing becomes public and the thread closes.

I think this is something that Railway's team should look into

The community is still the best next step here. The buttons below are still live: open the thread up as a public bounty after editing out anything sensitive, or keep it private and close it.

I'd like to request human escalation to someone on the Railway networking/infrastructure team for this issue.
This appears to require access to Railway's internal networking telemetry, so I would appreciate escalation to a human engineer rather than further automated troubleshooting.

This thread has been opened as a public bounty so the community can help solve it. The thread and any further activity are now visible to everyone.
