Unable to add CNAME for the 2nd custom domain

I have already added one custom domain (www.instantresumeai.com) to the Railway app, set up the DNS records, and it works fine. However, since domain redirects didn't work, I wanted to add the naked domain (instantresumeai.com) as a 2nd custom domain in the railway app. Now, the configuration isn't finished as my DNS provider (HostGator) doesn't allow CNAME to be added at the root level (@).

I wanted to know if any other means of DNS configuration would help me set up the domain for the application.

Also, I CANNOT move the domain to Cloudflare, since the root domain (www.instantresumeai.com) is already working, and I don't want to mess up that. So, I need another method to tackle this issue.

Note: I contacted HostGator's support, and they asked me to contact you for additional means of tackling this issue and configuring the domain.

We require a CNAME (or CNAME-flattened/ALIAS) record for root domains, and since HostGator does not support CNAME flattening at the apex, the recommended workaround is to point your domain's nameservers to Cloudflare while keeping HostGator as your registrar. This won't disrupt your existing www subdomain as long as you recreate all your current DNS records (including the www CNAME) in Cloudflare before switching nameservers. Our docs cover this in detail under Adding a root domain.

Is there any other option left so that I do not have to recreate current DNS records in Cloudflare, edit existing nameservers and mess up the system that is currently running? The domain is already a transferred one, now changing the nameservers, waiting for DNS propagation for the already running root domain (www), and stuff would be a hassle...

Also, should I have to purchase a plan in Cloudflare just for this domain configuration alone? If that's the case, then I don't think it's a valid option.

Cloudflare's free plan is sufficient for this, no paid plan is needed. That said, Cloudflare is not the only option. Any DNS provider that supports CNAME flattening or ALIAS/ANAME records at the root will work. Our docs list DNSimple (ALIAS), Namecheap (CNAME at root), and bunny.net (ANAME) as alternatives you could use instead.
