Unexpected $191.75 Billing Charge After Failed LiveKit Python Deployment (No Usage)

I attempted to deploy a LiveKit Python server on Railway as part of building my application. Unfortunately, the deployment did not work as expected and never became functional.

What’s concerning is that despite no successful deployment or actual usage, I’m seeing a billing charge of USD 191.75 on my account. This is completely unexpected, especially since:

The repository size is relatively small (around ~100MB).

The service never ran successfully.

There was no real traffic or usage from my side.

I’m currently in the early stage of building my app and experimenting with deployment. This charge is far beyond my budget, and I did not anticipate any significant cost from this attempt.

I’m requesting help to:

  • Understand why this charge occurred despite no usage.

  • Kindly review the billing and consider a adjustment, as this was not intentional usage.

  • I genuinely want to continue building on Railway, but this experience has been quite stressful for an early-stage builder.

Project & Deployment Details

Project Name: divine-quietude
Project ID: a2a8a728-65be-4189-9774-454933143ea1
Railway Environment: https://railway.com/project/a2a8a728-65be-4189-9774-454933143ea1?environmentId=55aefdbd-5584-49fa-8736-debcf7393a03

Repository / Code

GitHub Repo: https://github.com/manozcodes/agent-starter-python

This repository was used to attempt deploying the LiveKit Python server.

Additional Notes

  • The deployment did not become live or usable.

  • No production traffic was generated.

  • This was an experimental setup while learning and building.

I would really appreciate your support in clarifying this situation and helping resolve the billing issue.

Thank you for your time and understanding.

Hi, I raised a ticket earlier but haven’t received any response so far. Please let me know if any additional information is needed from my side.

Hello,

If you were charged, there was resource usage.

You can go to Workspace settings > usage then you’ll be able to see the usage costs by project and the services within each project.

Can you share a screenshot of your resource usages by project and service?

You need to go to your workspace settings to see cost breakdown by project and/or service.

816590.66 minutely GB means how many days of usuage?

I can't really say for sure because you could have multiple different services using various amounts of memory but that would estimate to around 18 days of using 32GB of ram continuously.

I would recommend looking into https://railway.com/workspace/usage, then clicking on the project and selecting "view cost by service". That will get you the answer on why the charge was so high for that specific service.

Also, even if it's 100MB in size (I'm assuming you're referring to storage here), it doesn't mean the application is resource-hungry.
