using variables in n8n

When I try to use variables within n8n, I'm getting this prompt to upgrade.

However, this is a self-hosted instance on Railway, so why am I encountering this? How do I fix it?

According to n8n docs, custom variables are only available on Self-hosted Enterprise and Pro Cloud plans.
