where to put CNAME to point my domain to railway

There is something I am not understanding when it comes to domains.
I purchased my domain (dbme.app) from GoDaddy.
In the Railway Admin Console I have tried to point dbme.app to my running app on railway.
It says:

Configure DNS Records

To finish setting up your custom domain, add the following DNS records.

It's saying to add the CNAME… but to what to I add it??
I must login to GoDaddy and place it somewhere there??

I did check some other threads here that mention CNAME but left those scratching my head.

Thanks in advance for any tips.

I found the place (Domain Portfolio) on Godaddy's site to enter the CNAME record but it's not clear what I must enter there.
I tried some things but the get rejected.
I 've chatted with a GoDaddy dude about it and they don't know much… they are saying I need to take it up with Railway.

I choose Type: CNAME and then it wants me to enter a Name and Value.
Apparently there are some heavy rules on what I can put into the Name or Value fields.

I would have thought that the Value would just be the CNAME given by Railway.
But then… what to put for Name?
I tried a single @ but it does not like that.
I was not wanting any sub-domain at this time for dbme.app.

Does anyone here have experience setting DNS from GoDaddy to point to railway?

GoDaddy doesn't support CNAME flattening that we rely on. Refer to https://docs.railway.app/guides/public-networking#redirecting-a-root-domain-workarounds

Ok, I was finally able to get the GoDaddy interface to accept @ as the Name.
All should be good now.
Thanks.

ah… I was wrong… it did not take.
Ok, I will try the workarounds you have suggested.
Thanks for the help.

Hello @rc, I used the info at the link you gave to leverage cloudfare.
Cloudfare shows my domain (dbme.app) as "active" and Railway says "Cloudfare proxy detected" but when I go to dbme.app the response I get is

ERRTOOMANY_REDIRECTS

Do you know what else I may be missing?

The login page of my app comes up fine when I use the Railway-provided "direct" URL to my app.

Thanks for any (more) help you can offer.
