I spent nearly 3 days trying to get the official recommended SigNoz template working on Railway, only to find that its dependencies had gone stale over the past 6 months. It turned out to be a chain of cascading issues — each fix revealing the next — with no guarantee it would all come together in the end. After working through all of that, I decided to build a streamlined alternative that just works out of the box. This template strips away the noise from the original and focuses on getting a functional OpenTelemetry stack up and running with minimal friction.

Huge thanks to the original author — their work made it possible for me to fork, iterate, and arrive at something deployable. I'm sharing this in the hope that it saves others the same struggle.

Hey zoeyjones, that's really impressive that you built a workaround for the original template! I'm from the SigNoz team, and after coming across this issue, I can see there were several problems with the template. We sincerely apologise for the extra effort it took just to get things working.

The good news is that we've made some significant improvements, and I'll be pushing an updated version within the next couple of days. The new template should be much easier to use and deployable right out of the box. Thanks so much for sticking with it and for using our template!
