Metal build environment won't affect the runtime at all. Your service crashing would be unrelated to that.
As for it being enabled I'm unsure on that. It might not be propagating correctly but you should be good to leave it on unless you are seeing major errors during builds!

Every time a service crashed, Metal Build was enabled, therefore my correlation. But the bigger concern is that it keeps enabling. Is there a keyboard shortcut or something that enables it?

Had just checked internally, we are in the process of rolling this out as our new main builder so in that rollout cycle its getting enabled for some users.

As for service crashing, that is a bit odd hmm. Could I get some info on the crashes?

It hasn't happened since I created this post. If it's okay, I'll update this post if/when it happens again with crash info.
