Change from free plan to hobby

I created my free plan today, and in less than two hours, it expired, and I hadn't even used 100 MB of banking and Redis combined. In fact, I still haven't been able to connect to them. So, I decided to sign up for the $5 plan, and not only was I charged $1.08, but I understand it's a card verification, but I still haven't received the refund, and now I have a $5 bill to pay, even though I haven't used it. I'm left with a bad impression of the platform.

I can't speak on behalf of the team for billing related issues, but usually if that card verification payment is applied to a credit card, it will appear as a pending transaction, which will never be processed so it would automatically be dropped so you shouldn't actually see it appear on your balance, but it will sometimes take up to three days to disappear naturally. If it's a debit card, it would usually be immediately posted, but you should expect the refund in a few days, those things are usually not immediate.

To actually use the plan though, you probably need to pay the $5, as would you signing up for any other service. With that, you get the benefits of the plan, and that $5 credit deducted from any usage throughout your billing period.

Hey there!

Currently I'm seeing that your payment failed, so your account is currently on the Free plan. You also appear to have some credits on your account, so if you do decide to upgrade your plan you should be able to use those.

If your payment is stuck or you're encountering a problem with upgrading let us know and we can unstick that invoice for you.

Okay, I understand that. However, if the service exceeds the amount I paid, will it be disabled until payment is made? And why did my free trial plan expire if I didn't even connect to Postgres? I tried the free plan to get to know the tool. I still don't understand how my free plan expired in two hours.

The Hobby plan costs $5/mo. You are charged upfront for the subscription cost, and the minimum amount you pay is $5/mo with $5 of usage included (it is not a discount). To summarize:

  • Minimum Cost: $5/mo buys you $5 in usage. This is the minimum cost for using Railway on the Hobby plan.

  • Usage Under $5: You are still charged $5.

  • Usage Over $5: You are charged $5 + any additional usage you incur.

Please refer to https://docs.railway.app/reference/pricing#plan-pricing for more information.

Hope that helps!

Why did the free plan expire so quickly? I didn't have time to test the platform. I think there was an error. Or was it because I created two production and two testing environments?

I'm not seeing the free plan expire. It looks like you attempted to upgrade to the Hobby plan, then canceled out of that. When you cancel the Hobby plan, it marks it as "Expired". You still have credits on your account and can still change your account back to the Free plan or Hobby plan.

I'm confused. Do I need to select the plan? It seems I'm logged into the free plan, but it says it's expired.

Your trial is expired. You will need to upgrade OR go select the free plan from the Plans section
